How the argument proceeds
Method
The same words can name different kinds of claim. A careful argument keeps its meanings, respects, and reasons in view.
Five questions, one disciplined inquiry
The project asks five recurring questions. What is real? What explains it? What could genuinely differ and who acts? What is truthfully disclosed? What would fulfill the subject? These are different explanatory jobs. They are not five established substances, five ontological primitives, or five chronological stages through which God or creation passes.
Determination and realization
We ask what differs, what realizes that difference, and what makes the reality one. Meaning, intrinsic state, constituent, personal identity, and relation cannot be exchanged without argument. Several true descriptions can concern one concrete actuality. Incompatible descriptions cannot be unified simply by assigning them a common realizer.
Dependence and origin
We ask what explains what, through which relation, and in which respect. Productive causation, sustaining dependence, constitution, personal origin, truthmaking, and cognitive actualization do different work. A fact involving God can require a creature's existence without the creature supplying God's intrinsic perfection. That distinction opens an explanation; it does not establish every claim about knowledge or freedom.
Possibility and agency
We distinguish real alternatives, intelligible reasons, actual settlement, and successful execution. Reasons can explain an action without necessarily selecting it. An indeterminate outcome can occur without intelligent authorship. The account of divine freedom must preserve controlled direction toward this creation, including a coherent account of freely refraining from creation.
Manifestation and measure
We ask what becomes truthfully present, by what relation, and with what warrant. A finite expression need not reproduce its source's mode of being. A manifestation can be adequate in a stated respect without being exhaustive. Its recognition as knowledge or revelation nevertheless needs the appropriate cognitive and evidential conditions.
Goodness and fulfillment
We ask what good belongs to the subject, what conditions constitute that good, and what defects impede it. Actuality, efficacy, satisfaction, and goodness are not interchangeable. A real creaturely good may include time, relation, embodiment, or assistance. Fulfillment perfects the creature according to its good, rather than removing every feature of finitude.
Participation across the five questions
Participation joins reception to real possession. Agency, expression, finality, and supernatural elevation require additional warrants. Receiving a power is not yet exercising it; sharing a cause is not yet communion; being a sign is not yet recognizing its meaning. These further questions allow participation to become an explanation of created life without making it a word that already contains every desired conclusion.
Four controls on every argument
Type asks which relation is involved. Respect asks what precisely is explained, received, known, or perfected. Modality asks whether the claim is actual, possible, necessary, or contingent and whether the explanation necessitates its result. Warrant asks what licenses the inference. These controls keep one successful explanation from silently substituting for several others.
How a philosophical claim earns its force
State the proposed explanation and its indispensable bridge. Remove that bridge and ask what serious rival remains. Defend the premise that excludes the rival, or acknowledge the remaining dispute. A formal model can clarify these dependencies and test their consistency under an interpretation. Its symbols do not certify the metaphysical truth of their interpretation.
The Catholic horizon gives the work its theological commitments. It does not erase philosophical differences among schools or turn a private synthesis into ecclesial teaching. The project aims to make its proposals answerable to both their doctrinal task and their actual explanatory success.
